A low pressure area formed over south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to finally intensify into a cyclone — to be named ‘Mocha’ — on Wednesday but won’t make a landfall in India as the system will eventually move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast after May 11, the IMD forecast on Monday.

The Met department advised regulation of tourism and offshore activities, including fishing and shipping, ne-ar Andaman and Nicobar Islands till May 12.

The cyclone, once formed, will be named Mocha (Mokha), a name in the list of tropical cyclones suggested by Yemen after the Red Sea port city, which is known to have introduced coffee to the world more than 500 years ago. Under the influence of the existing system, sea condition is likely to be rough over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea.
