Myanmar earned 115.242 million U.S. dollars from the exports of 69,612 tons of fishery products in the first quarter of the present fiscal year of 2023-2024, according to the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.

The revenue from exports of fishery products between April 1 and June 30 this year was down, as compared to 135.603 million U.S. dollars earned in the same period of the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the ministry’s data showed. “For this budget year, we expect to export 800 million U.S. dollars worth of fishery products,” Director of the Department of Fisheries U Nyunt Win told Xinhua.

Myanmar’s fishery products are mainly exported to China and Thailand, in which about 30 percent of the products are exported to China. “We are striving to export more fish to the markets in collaboration with entrepreneurs,” the official said.

According to the official, Myanmar is in the process of obtaining three agreements for aquatic products from nature and livestock, as well as aquatic animals such as crabs, prawns and eels.
