South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) retired Capt Saqib Zafar on Friday launched a fisheries pilot project here, aimed at introducing new technology for the promotion of fish farming across the region. The pilot project, titled “Bio-flock fish culture technology” will be costing about Rs20 million, and is expected to complete within this year.
Bahawalpur division fisheries deputy director, in a briefing, said that under the project, with the help of bio-flock fish culture technology an eco-friendly chemical would be mixed in the fish farm water to produce bacteria, which would consume the fish waste and left-over feed in the pond and by the end of process, also becomes the fish feed.
He said that by using this technology there would be no need to change the fish pond water which would save water.
South Punjab ACS termed the pilot project a revolutionary step in the promotion of fish farming. He said by introducing this technology , the expenditures on fish farming could be curtailed, water could be saved, besides eliminating contamination. This, he said, would also help achieve targets of progress in the shape of green energy, heading towards “blue revolution”.
