Research operations of the Chinese geophysical scientific research vessel Shi Yan 6 in the sea off Sri Lanka is due to conclude on Tuesday (31).

Director General of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) Dr. Kamal Tennakoon said the vessel is engaged in research activities in the seas off Bentara in Colombo.

The Chinese geophysical scientific research vessel, Shi Yan 6, commenced research operations off Sri Lanka on Monday (30) afternoon.

They were given 48 hours to conduct the research.

NARA said the temperature of the sea water, the condition of the sea waves, and how they affect fish and climate change will be studied during the research.

NARA said samples of different sea-water levels will also be tested.

Four NARA officials joined the research activities while two Navy officers also joined the research team.
