After a successful first Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) Summit in 2022, we committed to organise the 2nd SSF Summit 2024. We are happy to announce that it will be held on 5-7 July in Rome before the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI) 36th Session.

The SSF Summit 2024 is poised to be a pivotal event that seeks to transition from mere discussions to a collective endeavor with a common objective: advancing the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. In recognition of the 10th anniversary of the SSF Guidelines, the Summit is dedicated to not only acknowledging this milestone but also assessing the current status of SSF Guidelines implementation at national, regional and global level and inform future actions. It will serve as a global platform for comprehensively addressing SSF governance challenges and identifying real problems faced by small-scale fisheries, as well as propose and share solutions.

The organizing committee including the IPC Working Group on Fisheries, the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), the SSF Hub, SwedBio, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) drafted a concept note to collectively plan the SSF Summit 2024. A summary of feedback received can be found here. The SSF Summit 2024 continues aiming to be a space that is driven by and for SSF peoples primarily. The organizing committee is working with the SSF movements to finalize the agenda and criteria for participation. The criteria for participation will ensure a balanced representation of ages, gender, geographies and types of organizations.
