A joint meeting of the fishermen’s associations of the three states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Daman and Diu was held at the Fisherman’s Co-operative Society in Daman. Vinod Patil, Palghar district president of Akhil Maharashtra Fishermen’s Action Committee, informed Lokmat that the issues and problems faced by fishermen on the west coast were discussed in depth in this meeting.

Various issues were discussed in the meeting including the extension of monsoon fishing ban period from 61 days to 90 days, rivers in the three states which have become dead due to chemical companies operating in the industrial areas of the three states and reviving these rivers they, amicable and amicable settlement of internal disputes among the fishermen of the three states, illegal purse sein net fishing. , creation of strict laws by the central and state governments to take strict action against LED fishing lights, fishing lines, amendments to the IPC sections charging illegal fishing against fishermen under the Indian Penal Code, on fish stocks due to sand mining in Pradhan Port and Daman Patil informed that the states on the west coast formed a joint federation to solve problems such as preventing dangerous projects for fishing by jointly opposing these projects. and create pressure groups on the state and central government to solve the fishermen’s problems.

In the joint meeting of fishermen held in Daman, large committee of fishermen from Porbandar, Okha, Veraval, Jaffrabad, Nargol, Daman, Diu and Palghar, Thane, Mumbai etc. of Maharashtra state were present. Patil said that an organization called Indian West Coast Fishermen’s Federation (WCFF) was established for the justice rights of fishermen in this meeting when a unanimous resolution was passed. In principle, a core committee of fishermen from the three states has been established together to convey the problems of the fishermen to the central government and a delegation from the federation will visit the Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi in January, Patil said.

By passing a resolution in this meeting, Bernard DiMello (Thane), Vinod Patil (Palghar), Devendra Tandel (Mumbai), GS. Patil (Navi Mumbai), Sanjay Koli (Vasai), Manish Vaiti (Raigad), Khalil Vatsa (Ratnagiri), Mithun Malandkar (Sindhudurg), Kundan Daven (Dahanu) were named along with Naina Patil, Ashwini Tare, Sufalla Tare and Rupali . Patil was also appointed in the state of Maharashtra. Kanhayalal Solanki, Bhagubhai Solanki, Pawan Syal, Mukesh Panjari, Kirtibhai Ghoyal, Dineshbhai, Sunilbhai Ghoyal, Kirti Tandel, Vasu Tandel were appointed in Gujarat state. Also in Daman and Diu states Gopal Tandel, Udaybhai Tandel, Umesh Bamania, Dr. Bhavesh Solanki was appointed. Patil said that the federation will soon hold a joint meeting of fishermen from Goa and Karnataka.
