The high court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday directed govt to formulate an action plan to ensure that mechanised fishing doesn’t take place in the prohibited zone. The court, hearing a petition filed by the All Goa Small Scale Responsible Fisheries Union through its secretary Laximan Mangueshkar, called for the action plan to ensure that there is no mechanised fishing in the prohibited zone and that the July 7, 1981 notification is enforced. While formulating the action plan, authorities must also consider the suggestions of the association, the high court stated.

Advocate general Devidas Pangam asked for two weeks’ time to place the action plan on record. The HC ordered the captain of ports to be impleaded as a respondent in the petition. The court will hear the matter on March 11.
