The temperature in the country continue to rise after continuous rains at the beginning of this month. The ongoing mild heatwave has spread over 58 districts, which may spread further. Meanwhile, a two-day heat wave warning or ‘heat alert’ has been issued. On the other hand, the Department of Meteorology has said that there is a risk of down pressure in the sea after May 20. It can go through distinct dowdn pressure and it can become a cyclone if it gets stronger. However, it is not yet known whether it can hit the coast of Bangladesh.

On Thursday (May 16), meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick said, “It has been observed that a cyclone may form in the South Bay of Bengal after the 21st after observing various cyclone models. Which is likely to turn into down pressure later.

Four years ago, that is, in May 2020, on the 20th, Cyclone Amphan hit the coast of the country. The cyclone was quite devastating. However, due to the Sundarbans, the coast of the country was saved in that journey. Earlier in 2009, in this month of May, the Sundarbans was hit by the devastating Aila. Meteorologists say Remal could be as destructive as Amphan and Aila. But what is its power; It will take some more time to know whether it will eventually develop into a super cyclone or not.

According to the Indian Meteorological Office’s forecast, a cyclone may form in the South Bay of Bengal on May 20. It will reinforce straight north. It may take the form of a cyclone on May 24. After the evening of May 25, the cyclone may approach West Bengal or Bangladesh.
