Five fishing trawlers with 49 fishermen capsized in the sea near Kuakata in Bangladesh in the Char area of ​​Haier adjacent to Buoy No. 1 due to rough waves in the Bay of Bengal. Among them, 47 fishermen including a trawler were rescued. Even after three days, four trawlers and two fishermen were missing.

The missing trawlers and the fishermen were not found until Friday (July 26) night. Zakir Pada, the owner of a trawler, filed a general diary (GD) on the incident at the Mahipur police station.

This trawler sinking incident occurred at different times on Thursday (July 25) night.

Shawkat Hossain Biswas Tapan, chairman of Lalua Union of Kalapara, said that after ending the ban on fishing in the sea on July 23, Lalua’s Zakir Padar’s trawler went fishing in the sea with 14 fishermen. Feroze Talukdar fell into the sea on Thursday night while sitting on the back of a trawler due to heavy waves. He was not found until Friday night. Zakir Pada, the trawler’s owner, filed a GD in the incident at the Mahipur police station.

Abdul Jalil, the president of the Alipur fishing port owner association, said that five trawlers owned by Abdul Karim, Shaheen Matubbar, Sohrab Gazi, Razzak Matubbar and Md. Ujjal capsized due to the rough waves in the sea. Among them, 47 fishermen including a trawler were rescued, but Nayeem Chowkidar, the fisherman of Bellal Chowkidar’s trawler, is missing.

Currently, hundreds of trawlers have stopped fishing and taken safe shelter in Alipur and Mahipur fishing ports and various estuaries due to the rough sea. However, hundreds of trawlers in various areas including Kalapara are fishing in the sea at the risk of their lives, said fishermen who returned from the sea after stopping fishing.
