The Shinde government’s commitment to supporting the fishing community is evident in its swift action to address concerns raised by local fishermen in Worli over the Coastal Road project. Understanding the project’s potential impact on fishing activities, Chief Minister Shinde engaged directly with the community, referred to affectionately as Koli brothers, and mandated modifications to the bridge’s design to ensure unimpeded boat access. Guardian Minister of Mumbai city, Deepak Kesarkar, has played a pivotal role in this initiative, advocating for the integration of tourism, accommodation, and breakfast services. Recognizing the crucial role of direct support mechanisms, the Mahayuti government has accelerated the rollout of the Ratna Sindhu Yojana, a welfare scheme initially conceived by the previous Uddhav Thackeray administration. This scheme, along with additional measures offering subsidies on boat engines and fish vending carts, has been rapidly implemented, directly benefiting fishermen in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
