The Government of Sri Lanka is taking steps to set up a project to manufacture fish meal for export market. This project will be set up in Mannar. The fisheries sector plays an important role in Sri Lanka’s Social and economic life. The sector contributes about 2.7 per cent to the country’s GDP and has a significant scope to increase the level of contribution through exploiting high seas for tuna fishing & value addition.
