The Kerala Swathantra Matsyathozhilali Federation has demanded the State government and district administration to provide emergency aid to the fishing families who have lost their houses and fishing equipment in sea erosion and rain at Poonthura, Valiyathura, Pozhiyoor and Adimalathura. Rehabilitation Steps should be taken to permanently rehabilitate these families and others who have been living in the Fisheries School at Valiyathura for years. The Kerala Latin Christian Archdiocese too asked the State government and district administrations to take immediate steps to rehabilitate the families. Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar visited the coastal areas on Tuesday and assessed the damage caused by sea erosion. He instructed the Major Irrigation department to take steps to strengthen the seawalls.
