Indian Coast Guard personnel rescued 11 Indian fishermen, who were stranded in sea after their boat developed a technical snag, said statement issued on Monday. Indian Coast Guard ship Ameya received a distress message from Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) at 8pm last Wednesday on the drifting of a fishing boat with 11 fishermen in position 98 nautical miles east of Karaikal due to a technical problem. Coast guard Dornier from Chennai carried out aerial search and the fishing boat was located at 1.10pm on Thursday. Indian Coast Guard ship Ameya from Karaikal, which set off for rescue operations, reached the stranded boat at 12.45pm on Friday. The coast guard personnel rescued the fishermen and also towed their boat to Karaikal port on Saturday. The fishermen, who ventured into the sea on June 14, were scheduled to return on June 24.
