The State government is committed to uplifting the local fishermen by addressing their woes and providing fishing rights, Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, has said. Some fishermen and members of various associations met Mr. Madhwaraj, when he was travelling on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, here on Wednesday. He said the government is contemplating providing coracles, fishing nets and other materials to fishermen free of cost, besides taking up welfare measures for the community. He also said the government was looking into providing fishing rights for the community in reservoirs and lakes. “We are planning to bring out fishing and sports policies. Convention Mr. Madhwaraj released the poster of ‘Gangamathastha Convention’, which will be held at ‘Raitha Sabhangana’ here on August 8. Members of Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdaiah Maha Sabha and Karnataka Rajya Valmiki Nayaka Sanghagala Okkuta were present.
