The Agency for Development of Aquaculture, Kerala (ADAK) announced financial aid for ‘One paddy, One fish’ scheme. ADAK invited applications from interested parties for the scheme to be implemented as part of Kaipad – Pokkali system in Thrissur and Ernakulam. Self-help groups comprising five farmers or fishermen can apply for the scheme. The selected group should identify five hectares of agriculture land and should secure right to conduct farming for five years. The scheme initiated by the central government has allocated Rs 25 crore for integrated paddy farming and aquaculture under the Pokkali and Kaipad systems. The scheme envisages to cultivate saline-resistant varieties of crops under integrated farming practices for raising paddy and fish in alternative crops in brackish water.
