The State government is planning to extend accident insurance facility of Rs 5 lakh to fishermen, according to Finance Minister Eatala Rajender here on Monday. Addressing at a meeting on the occasion of World Fisheries Day, Rajender assured the fishermen community that the government would take all measures to empower the community. He took a dig at the previous government for neglecting the fisheries sector in Telangana State and concentrating all development in coastal districts. The Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was keen on initiating measures for all-round development of fishermen community. He said the measures being taken was aimed at empowering the community financially. The Mission Kakatiya, the flagship programme of the government, would provide added impetus to develop the fisheries sector. The government, he said, had provided fish seed in an attempt to give a boost to pisciculture in the State. Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav and others took part.
