Sindh trawlers owner and Fishermen Association held a protest at Karachi Fish Harbor on Tuesday, demanding the issuance of crew cards to Bengali fishermen. The participants of the rally, carrying national flags, were raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans. While addressing the rally, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MPA Shafi Muhammad Jamot said that even though Pakistan was an agricultural country, the fishing sector can generate more revenue than the farming sector if the government prioritizes it. He urged the government to form a committee to resolve the Bengali fishermen’s issues. Sindh trawler owner and Fishermen Association’s Patron Sarwar Aijaz Siddiqui claimed that 90 per cent launches were lying idly at the har bourdue to the non-issuance of crew cards to the Bengali fishermen. On the occasion, Fishermen Association President Habibullah Khan and general secretary Akbar Khan said that around 5 to 6 million families were associated with this profession. The Karachi fish harbor made exports of around $500 million and sell sea food worth Rs 70 billion in local market. They said that if the crew cards were not issued the local market as well as country’s export might suffer a critical loss.
