Sri Lanka Navy in a news item states that the Naval personnel arrested 5 Indian poachers engaged in illegal fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters, north of Mannar on 1st May. But Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in a letter to Indian Prime Minister has brought to his notice that “on April 30, Sri Lanka Navy has arrested five fishermen, hailing from Thangachimadam in Rameswaram. Sri Lanka Navy news reports very clear states that the arrest took place only on 1st May and not on 30th April as being written Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The naval personnel on board a Fast Attack Craft in the North Central Naval Command arrested 5 Indian poachers engaged in illegal fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters, north of Mannar today (1). Along with the suspects, a fishing dhow was also taken into naval custody, Sri Lanka Navy reports says. The SL Navy reports further revealed, “The arrested fishermen and fishing dhow were handed over to the Mannar Assistant Directorate of Fisheries for onward legal action.
