The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration in association with Fishery Survey of India, Port Blair conducted a training cum awareness programme at Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat recently. On the occasion, the Director of Fisheries, Shri J Chandrasekar highlighted about the schemes introduced by the Department under Blue Revolution for the benefit of Fishers of A&N Islands. He called upon the fishers to avail benefit of the Central Sector Schemes for procurement of FRP boats, Out-Board/ In-Board engines and Safety equipments (GPS & Fish Finder, DAT etc.) The Zonal Director, Fishery Survey of India, Dr. Shiju Varghese spoke on the activities of FSI, Port Blair and highlighted about the modern fishing gears for Tuna and vertical long line. Later Shri K. Gopal, Fisheries Inspector, explained about the availability of subsidy under various schemes for the fishermen to acquire inputs like motorised/ mechanised boats, Deep Freezers, Ice Boxes, FRP Boats, Inboard/ Out Boat engines and safety equipments. Shri Dharamveer Singh, Marine Mechanical Engineer, Fishery Survey of India also spoke about the importance of Safety at Sea through a power point presentation. The fishers present in the programme were given hands on training on board fishing vessel about handling and usage of GPS, Fish Finder, Eco Sounder and VHF. Earlier, Shri Abdul Salam, Assistant Director of Fisheries welcomed all the dignitaries and participants and spoke on the objective of the programme. More than 50 fishermen from Junglighat area participated in the programme.
