Rains and thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Odisha over the next 24 hours due to the movement of cyclonic storm Mora over east central of Bay of Bengal. According to reports, Mora is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours and is likely to move north-northeastwards, crossing Bangladesh coast. According to AccuWeather, the strengthening cyclone could bring flooding and damaging storm surge to the northern Bay of Bengal. The Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department has advised fishing boats and trawlers in the nearby waters to seek shelter. AccuWeather says flood threat also looms large over parts of northeastern India. “Rainfall in excess of 12 inches (300 mm) can be expected in some of the mountainous terrain. This will make mudslides and flash flooding a major concern in northeastern India, western Myanmar and eastern Bangladesh, it says. According to reports, on May 30 and May 31, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Assam and Meghalaya.
