Chinese investors have agreed to invest in the fishing industry within the marine territory belonging to Sri Lanka. The decision was made after discussion between a group of Chinese investors and the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Dilip Wedaarachchi yesterday (20). Minister added that the efforts made to re-cultivate fish is much less than that used to harvest the fish. He stated that the fish population found in Sri Lankan waters has been rapidly declining; hence the Chinese investors will be looking to harvest fish on land to meet the bottle neck caused by the insufficient supply. The Chinese investors had stated that they are able to provide the necessary land and equipment to carry out a project of this capacity. They further added that the possibility of investing in related industries, with the help of other investors from China will also be looked into.
