Flash floods in Hakaluki Haor due to recent incessant rainfall and the surge of upstream water from the hills have submerged more than 50 villages at Borolekha upazila in Moulvibazar leaving 25,000 people marooned. UNO SM Abdullah Al Mamun said Dashghari, Raninagar, Badda , Jhagri, Patna, Volarkandi, Uttar Baghmara villages of Sujanagar union council, Halla, Islampur, Kutaura, Badda, Nunua, Pabijuri, Sreerampur, Murshidabadkura, Purba Ghagra, Boromoidan, Ghagrakandi, Telimeli, Gopalpur and Haoudpur villages of Talimpur union and Palshail, Satpur, Kazirbondi, Noagaon, Uzirpur and Dasherbazar vilages of Borni union are badly affected. The flood inundated hundred of acres of cropland in the areas and affected hundreds of thousands of families, he said. Kamal Hossain, who took shelter at Hakaluki High School, said the people in the area had lost crops, fish and valuables due early flood in the haor. Now, the flood this time had brought adverse suffering for them newly, he added. Jitendra Biswas, Zakir Hossen and Babuuddin of Talimpur union said more than 20,000 residents of the union had been affected directly. Around 30 families affected by the flood were sheltered at the shelter house immediately while the administration shipped the immediate needs at the relief camp for the victims.
