As many as 10 houses were damaged as the district witnessed intermittent rainfall on Tuesday with property loss due to the inclement weather being reported from various parts. With the southwest monsoon intensifying, several houses in Chirayinkeezhu taluk suffered partial destruction. While three houses in Kizhuvilam were partially damaged on the day, 13 houses in Anchuthengu, Azhoor, Kilimanoor and Pulimath were reported to have suffered damages in varying degrees during the last two days. Seven houses were damaged in Neyyattinkara on Tuesday, according to official sources. Strong waves continued to pound the coastal areas of the district with residents being advised to shift to safer zones. Two fishermen had a miraculous escape when their fishing vessel overturned at Muthalapozhy in the wee hours of the day. While no major incidents of destruction were reported from Thiruvananthapuram city, there were many instances of arterial roads getting inundated and trees being uprooted, thereby disrupting vehicular flow. Slow traffic The NH-66 bypass witnessed slow-moving traffic with various points along the stretch getting flooded. The situation has been brought under control, albeit temporarily, with authorities pumping out the water. Clogged drains along the Attakulangara bypass led to a similar situation with traffic being disrupted. The problem has been attributed to the unchecked dumping of garbage at points where the drains were left uncovered. The Public Works Department (PWD) would undertake the removal of the accumulated waste materials as soon as the monsoon lessened, an official said. Personnel of the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services were kept on tenterhooks with trees crashing down at various locations. Such incidents were reported from near the North Gate of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, NSS College Road in Karamana, on the premises of the Poojappura Central Prison, along MC Road at Kizhayikonam, near Venjaramoodu, and at Anthiyoorkkonam, near Peyad.
