A group of Indian fishermen salvaged a sunken Sri Lankan fishing trawler while fishing at mid sea and pulled it to the Rameswaram coast, today. The Fisheries officials said that five fishermen had set sail into the sea in a mechanised boat for fishing from Rameswaram fishing jetty last morning. While they were fishing between Dhanushkodi and Talaimannar, their boat snared a heavy object in its nets. The fishermen pulled the heavy object to Rameswaram coast and were stunned to found a Sri Lankan fiberglass fishing boat with large patches of moss. The Coastal Security Group of Tamil Nadu Marine Police took possession of the boat and held inquiry with the fishermen, who brought it to the Indian shore. The boat measured 18 feet in length, six feet in width and the growth of moss all over the boat suggested that it could have sunk in the sea a few years ago due to rough weather. No sabotage marks were found on the boat. The Marine police registered a case under Section 102 of the CrPC and were investigating.
