Katem-Baina locals, along with Drishti lifeguards rescued eight fishermen from drowning off Baina beach in Vasco, after their canoe overturned on Monday evening. According to information, a group of eight fishermen had ventured into the sea in a canoe from Katem Baina to catch fish on Monday morning. However, while they were returning to the shore their canoe overturned due to rough weather, throwing all eight crew members into the sea. Luckily for them, people of the shore spotted them and rushed to the fishermen’s rescue. Soon Drishti lifeguards manning Baina beach also rushed to the spot and all eight fishermen were rescued. The boat is owned by one Lucino Fernandes and the crew members had ventured into the sea using a motor to be used during emergency. When they were returning, the motor on the boat malfunction and the boat turned turtle due to high-tide waves. All fishermen were rescued and even boat was successfully removed. No one was injured and no major loss was caused, a local fisherman from Katem-Baina who was present at the site, said.
