A ship rammed into a small fishing boat around 39 nautical miles off the coast near here, Kerala State Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty Amma said on Saturday. She told the media that the accident took place around 12.15 p.m, and all the six fishermen in the boat were rescued by other fishermen fishing in the same area. “All the authorities concerned, including the Indian Navy, have been informed and they have started the job to identify the ship that hit the boat. The fishing boat has been totally damaged, said Amma. A naval spokesperson said that the authorities were first trying to identify the ship that rammed into the boat. “It would be premature at the moment to name the ship that hit the boat, as there were some other ships also where the accident took place. The authorities through scientific mechanism will alone be able to pin-point the errant ship, said the naval spokesperson. In June this year, a Greek cargo ship had rammed into a fishing boat off the Kochi coast, leaving two fishermen from Tamil Nadu dead.
