The Sri Lankan Naval personnel allegedly attacked two Indian fishing trawlers and seized fishing nets and marine cache, when they were fishing on high seas at midnight last night. Fisheries officials said the fishermen of two fishing trawlers lodged a complaint with the Coastal Security Group of Tamil Nadu Marine Police about the incident, after they reached the shore, this morning. Fishermen hailing from Arukattuthurai fishing hamlet in Nagapattinam district had ventured into the sea yesterday for fishing in a number of mechanized fishing trawlers. When they were fishing near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) South-East of Kodiakkarai coast, the Sri Lankan Naval Patrol crafts encircled two Indian fishing trawlers and pelted stones indiscriminately. Later they boarded the fishing trawlers and forcibly took away the fishing nets and marine cache after warning the crew of dire consequences. The fishermen of two vessels returned with huge loss. Marine police are investigating into the incident.
