In an incident mocking the high-level round-the-clock security at Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir, miscreants have killed hundreds of fish by allegedly blasting explosive materials at the boating point at Brindavan Gardens. According to the police, a good number of fully-grown fishes of various species were found dead and floating on Tuesday morning. Initially, the personnel at KRS tried to clear the fishes. However, some visitors noticed the incident and alerted the Irrigation Department personnel. Security threat The police suspect that the fishes were killed by using explosive materials. They expressed their ire on the agencies concerned. The police department will receive a complaint from Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL), custodian of KRS, or other authorities and conduct an inquiry, a police officer said. “We have sent the fishes for laboratory tests, Jayaramaiah, Assistant Director, Department of Fisheries, said on Thursday. The KRS has been facing threats since the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) of Sri Lanka had threatened to blow up the reservoir after the brutal killing of Mr. Gandhi, while in the recent years, the Central Intelligence has warned of attacks on KRS from militant organisations. A heavy contingent of Karnataka State Industrial Security Force, modelled on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force, is providing protection to the reservoir since February 2016.
