Fishermen in Kurnool district can benefit from the Central subsidy ‘Matsya Vikas Pakwada Scheme’ being offered by the Fisheries department, said Assistant Director Ali Mohammad and FDO Pakkirayya here on Tuesday. At a review meeting with fishermen of the Krishna shore area and tanks near Nallamala, the officials explained the benefits of the scheme, saying that there were 80 per cent subsidy schemes for the fishermen in Kothapalli, Atmakur, Srisailam, Velugode, Pagadyla, Nandikotkur and Jupadu Bunglow. They stated that if each fisherman sets up a fish tank spread over one hectare he would get Rs 3 lakh rebate, fishlings and necessary tools. The unit cost should be Rs 6 lakh. Those belonging to BC communities would get 50 per cent rebate, besides vehicle facility. If beneficiaries belonging to SC and ST communities possess one cent land, a sale and purchase centre would be constructed there spending Rs 10 lakh. The officials said that the Central government was examining a proposal to sanction pension for those fishermen aged over 50 years. The department would ensure financial progress of fishermen by encouraging them to establish aqua units. They advised fishermen’s cooperative societies to renew their registrations and licences on a regular basis, while laying stress on special development of the Chenchus.
