Massive protest was held by fishermen community in Kanyakumari against the government on Thursday for not saving missing fishermen who were in the sea during cyclone Ockhi. People from 44 fishermen community including, Arokkiapuram, Neerodi, Chinnathurai, Vallavilai, Marthandamthurai, Inaiyam, Iraiyammanthurain and Ramathurai conducted a rally and walked for 15 km. After reaching Kuzitharai railway station, they sat and blocked the tracks in protest. Many claimed that no officials visited their village to inquire about the missing fishermen. Families of missing fishermen also alleged that a wrong number was projected and given to the center. They were also angry over Central Minister Pon Radhakrishnan who was also from their constituency. People also demanded that the Chief Minister should visit them at once and provide a solution to find the missing fishermen. Over 8,000 people participated in the protest turning the railway system dysfunctional. Kanyakumari fishermen were extremely angry over the fact that CM Edapadi K Palanisamy was busy celebrating MGR Centenary birthday celebrations while Kanyakumari got battered by cyclone Ockhi.
