There are complaints about the lack of basic amenities at the fishing harbour coming up on the Kasaba beach here. A mini-park built close to the estuary wears a deserted look nearly four years after setting up the facility. The park and the cafeteria attached to it hardly have any customers. The make-shift structure was found vandalised by anti-social elements recently. The incident comes weeks after a meeting between N.A. Nellikkunnu, MLA, with the local fishermen failed to make any headway, with the fisherfolk vehemently opposing any move to revive the defunct park. They maintained that the authorities concerned should take steps to ensure basic infrastructure facilities at the upcoming fishing harbour, sources said. Loss to tourists The stalemate has deprived hundreds of tourists of an opportunity to enjoy the serene and picturesque estuary surrounded by a variety of trees, including a coconut grove along the banks of the Chandragiri river and the ruined Chandragiri Fort visible from a distance. Mr. Nellikkunnu has sought to earmark a Rs. 82-crore package in the upcoming State budget to upgrade the basic infrastructure facilities at the Kasaragod fishing harbour.
