The Legal Committee of the Majlis Ash’shura of Oman yesterday hosted officials from the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry to study the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing, which was referred by the Council of Ministers to the Majlis.
Items covered in the agreement were studied with the officials to take their comments on the legal and economic aspects of illegal fishing so as to enrich the committee’s report on the agreement.
The committee also discussed with the guests the objectives of the agreement, its application and the items that govern the work of ports, besides levels of inspection in the Sultanate, its procedures, types of conservation measures, marine resources management and migrant fish.
The meeting also reviewed plans and procedures to combat illegal fishing, conserving national fisheries and other topics covered by the agreement.
