More than 2,000 fishermen in Kelantan are eligible for the fishermen insurance scheme, which provides protection with rewards of between RM50,000 and RM100,000.
Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority director Wan Mohd Adnan Wan Ibrahim said the scheme was beneficial to fishermen who were exposed to risks at sea.
“They will be paid RM100,000 for accidents that happened at sea and RM50,000 for accidents on land,” he said after presenting cost of living allowance to fishermen in Perupuk, here, yesterday.
Introduced by MAA Takaful Berhad, Adnan said under the scheme, the fishermen would pay a monthly premium of RM100 for one year protection, covering death, physical disability and hospital treatment.
