Chairperson of the Federation of Kuwaiti Fishermen (FKF) Mohammad Hashim Al-Ali has announced that fresh Shrimps are available in their huge quantities ranging from 400-450 baskets each day, reports Al-Rai daily.

Declaring the good news, Al-Ali praised the efforts of the Chairperson of Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) to preserve the country’s fish reserves.

He stressed that PAAAFR as of Aug 1 allowed the fishermen to start fishing for shrimps after placing a ban on this activity in the Kuwaiti waters for many months, with the intention of protecting the fish stock. He reaffirmed the union is keen on adequate supply of shrimps to citizens and expatriates.

He noted the shrimps are reasonably priced, indicating a basket of Um Na’ira is sold for KD 40-45 and Al-Shahamia KD 20-25, but he didn’t rule out the possibility of amending the prices in the next few days.

He also said the chairperson of PAAAFR intends to regulate the fishing of ‘meid’, seeing many people opt for this particular fish that is reasonably priced.
