Local fishermen from Mudhug region have expressed their anger towards oppression from foreign ships at regions coastline.

Nur Mohamed Siyad, a local fisherman who contacted Shabelle media said that foreign vessels congested the whole coastline and conducted illegal fishing at the regions coastline. He added that the foreign ships threaten locals and put locals’ lives in danger.

Many foreign ships conduct illegal fishing at the Somalia coastline. This allegation comes days after the president announced that illegal fishing by foreign vessels will not be tolerated by his government.

Mr Nur calls for the federal government and the administration of Mudhug region to intervene as local fishermen are denied their daily source of livelihood.
