According to a new poll from a local media firm around 70% of Icelanders are against lowering the fishing fees on vessel owners which the current government plans on doing. This was stated today on the front page of Iceland’s most read newspaper, Fréttablaðið.

60% of those who support the Progressive Party are against lowering the fee. However, 60% of those who support the Independence Party are in favour of lowering the fee while 40% of them are against it.

Around 90% of those who support Bright Future, the Social Democratic Alliance and the Left-Green Movement are against lowering the fee. 75% of those who support the Pirate Party want to keep the fishing fee unchanged.

The poll can conducted via phone from June 26th – 27th. Phone calls were made until 800 people had answered. The response rate was around 75% and it was asked whether the fishing fee should be lowered like the government plans on doing.
