The total catch by Icelandic fisheries decreased by 5.3 per cent in August 2013, with prices remaining constant, reports Statistics Iceland.

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in August 2013 was 97,874 tonnes compared to 100,411 tonnes in August 2012.

Demersal species accounted for 16,500 tonnes, thereof cod 9 thousand tonnes, haddock 1,700 tonnes, redfish 2,600 tonnes and saithe 1,800 tonnes.

The pelagic catch was 80 thousand tonnes, thereof herring 22,100 tonnes and mackerel 55,700 tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch decreased by 5.3 per cent in August 2013 compared with August 2012.
