A large number of fishermen and their families hailing from different villages located along the 129-km long Karachi coastline in Pakistan staged a protest demonstration on Thursday for the protection of their sources of livelihood.
They gathered at the famous Fawara Chowk near Governor House and marched towards the Karachi Press Club to vent their anger against the government agencies, Coast Guards and others, who have been deployed at the routes of boats, and depriving the fishermen of their catch and valuables on their way to open sea and returning home.
The rally was organised by the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) and it attracted hundreds of coastal area people to show unity against the common problems of harassment and destruction of their livelihood resources.
Chairperson PFF Mohammed Ali Shah, Secretary Saeed Baloch, Majid Motani, Tahira Ali, Sami Memon and others led the rally.
