Robbers kidnapped 40 fishermen along with 10 trawlers at Katka in the Sundarbans under Sharankhola upazila of the Bangladesh district on Monday.
Coast Guard of Mongla zone operation division staff officer Lt Commander M Mohiuddin Majumder said gang members belonging to notorious Rahman Bahini’ and Jahangir Bahini’ swooped on the trawlers while the fishermen were fishing in the early morning.
The gang members looted fish and net and kidnapped 40 fishermen along with 10 fishing trawlers. They demanded Tk 50,000 for release of each fisherman, he said.
The robbers stabbed 15 fishermen and threw four of them into the sea. Later, the Coast Guard members rescued the four fishermen and sent them to hospital, according to a news agency.
