Three years on from the devastating earthquake and tsunami which triggered the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl and Japan’s Fukushima plant is still struggling.
The main problem is how to control the build-up of highly contaminated radioactive water.
Tokyo Electric Power Company owns the plant and although radiation levels have declined the wearing of a protective gear in the control room is compulsory.

At 2.46 on the afternoon of March 11, 2011 an earthquake struck off the coast of Honshu sending a 15 metre wall of water over six metre high seawall defences.
Around 19,000 people were killed and a million buildings were destroyed. Three years on and nearly 270,000 individuals are still homeless.
Earthmoving equipment is everywhere, residential neighbourhoods are being relocated to higher ground. A massive land clearance and rebuilding programme is underway but it could take decades.
