The search area for the two missing crew members of the fishing boat Santa Ana, a Portuguese and a Spaniard, is to be expanded after divers confirmed that their bodies were not in the vessel, which sank after hitting rocks in north-western Spain.

“We are going to focus our attention on the maritime currents. No-one is inside the Santa Ana, said Captain Carlos Martínez, who is coordinating the police divers.

The divers managed to inspect the parts of the boat on Tuesday that they had not been in before, such as the engine room and store room.

There was only one survivor out of the nine crew members and there are two still missing.

Specialists believe the bodies of the two missing fishermen may have been carried away by the strong currents in the area.

“Four of our divers were dragged away by the currents while they were working, said Martínez, adding that some parts of the vessel are a long way from where the boat went down.
