Sri Lanka has released all Indian fishermen jailed in the country today ahead of the new Foreign Minister’s visit to New Delhi tomorrow.

Spokesperson of India’s External Affairs Ministry Syed Akbaruddin in a Twitter message said all Indian fishermen have been released and arrangements have been made for an early return of them.

“All free.With release of 15 Indian fishermen today. No more Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody. Arrangement being made for early return,” he tweeted.

Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Ministry Wednesday said the release of the Indian fishermen’s boats would also be “favorably considered”.

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera is scheduled to visit India Saturday on an invitation extended to him by his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj. He is scheduled to hold discussions with the Indian Foreign Minister on 18 January.

Samaraweera’s visit will be the first high-level visit between the two countries after the new Sri Lankan government assumed power.
