The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) in the south Indian state of Kerala is setting up Business Incubation Centre and Start-up Villages in collaboration with industrial bodies.

This is to encourage entrepreneurial initiatives among students and the University Academic Council has taken a favourable decision in this regard, B Madhusoodana Kurup Vice Chancellor said.

The proposed centre will focus on development of value added products, aquaculture projects and consultancy services in initial stage. The centre will serve as single window for disseminating relevant information, technological support and training to the stakeholders.

The existing facilities of the University and its regional centres will be upgraded to serve in establishing start up villages for effective implementation of viable projects.

Besides, the Academic Council also decided to start massive online open courses in all departments to increase the enrolment ratio of fisheries and ocean studies education. Software developed by the Ministry of Human Resources will be used for developing the online teaching facility.
