Over the next seven years, the European Commission will make €129 million available for further preservation and enhancement of the competitiveness of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in the Netherlands.

The European Commission has approved the Dutch programme for the deployment of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for the period 2014-2020.

The Netherlands is one of the first countries with an approved programme.

Secretary Dijksma of Economic Affairs, said: “Consumers are increasingly demanding sustainable seafood. For anglers this means that they have to play a part in this. This programme is designed to boost the innovation and sustainability to fishermen.”

The fund provides the sector with opportunities to develop initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the new European Common Fisheries Policy.
