As a part of cleanliness campaign ‘’Swachh Bharat Mission” initiated by Government of India, Department of Fisheries organized a campaign at Weir Chattabal on April 22, in which stress was laid on desisting from excessive use of polythene and other non-biodegradable components which are being washed every now and then in various water bodies thereby choking the water bodies and disturbing their flora and fauna.

The fish production of these water bodies get affected by alteration in the breeding and feeding ground which is a great concern.

During the campaign participating took pledge not to use non-biodegradable items which have adverse effect on the health and hygiene, flora and fauna etc.

Later, a cleanliness drive was organized at the Fisheries Office Complex of Weir Chattabal, Srinagar in which all the officers and officials participated.

The Joint Director Fisheries Kashmir Division, Srinagar addressing the function said that use of non-biodegradable agents should be discouraged to save the environment from pollution.
