The Angolan minister of Fisheries, Victoria de Barros Neto, considered on Friday in Lisbon, Portugal, fundamental the role that the sector can play in the “urgent” task of diversification of the national economy.

Speaking to Angop at the end of the plenary meeting of ministers from more than 60 countries, under the First Week Blue, held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Sea of Portugal, Victoria de Barros Neto said that the sector “is an intensive in manpower and contributes significantly to the improvement of people’s quality of life”.

During the discussion of various topics, including the sustainable growth of the maritime economy, Victoria de Barros assessed the Fisheries area “as one of the foundations for building a strong economy based on the enhancement of human capital, the reorganization of the productive system and technological innovation, taking into account the conservation and preservation of marine ecosystems and resources.

“The development of human capital is a high priority for Angola, and is currently being completed the construction of an Academy of Fisheries and Marine Sciences”, said the Angolan official.
