Today marks the first year anniversary of the passing of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s Committee on Fisheries (SSF Guidelines).
While this daunting title may not seem terribly exciting, the passing of these guidelines is a huge step towards recognizing the importance of small-scale fisheries around the world, improving conditions within the fisheries for the people who depend on them and ensuring that these fisheries are able to sustainably provide for communities and thrive for years to come.
