All across Peru today, the country is celebrating the holiday of the Day of St. Peter and St. Paul (San Pedro y San Pablo) where in processions carry the image of St. Peter, the patron saint of fishermen.

The event was celebrated in full today in the Port of Callao as fishermen carried the image of St. Peter and a tribute to fishermen who had perished on the job. Today they also celebrate Fisherman Day or Día del Pescador, reports El Comercio.

The fishermen gathered in the Basilica of Callao and attended a mass in honor of San Pedro, San Pablo and the current Pope, Pope Francisco.

From the Basilica the fishermen carried the image of St. Peter to the dock in the Port of Callao and aboard a boat. Throughout the procession they sang and praised to the statue of the apostle.

While, the image of St. Paul, dressed in a turquoise tunic, was escorted by a huayno and cumbia band. The general public road by its side in small boats, reports El Comercio.
