Fisheries Ministers from Brazil and Angola met this week in Brasilia to define a series of actions to help develop fisheries and aquaculture in both countries.
“We are reaffirming the bilateral interest in building the two activities,” said the head of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA), Helder Barbalho, after meeting his Angolan counterpart, Victoria de Barros Neto, at the headquarters of the MPA.
Helder stressed that aquaculture should be the focal point of the association, but he ensured they would not set fishing aside.
The minister pointed out that through public companies and federal universities, Brazil has developed experiences with important results in the aquaculture sector, which is enabling the entry of new companies interested in investing in fish farming.
He also recalled that the MPA is agreeing guidelines with other government institutions and entities, such as the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE).
As for fishing, projects are being studied in the area of monitoring of vessels.
For her part, Minister Barros Neto thanked the Brazilian Minister for the Organization of Brazil-Angola Technical Seminar, held at the headquarters of the MPA.
“It was very good. Our entrepreneurs and government representatives had the opportunity to learn about the management of the Ministry and to visit fish farms,” said the Angolan official.
Furthermore, she stressed Helder’s readiness to advance agreements and said that in Angola Brazilian projects will be implemented.
“That is the way to produce, develop the country and distribute income,” remarked the minister.
“We want to improve aquaculture, especially tilapia farming. We know that Brazil has a lot to help us,” she concluded.
