Millions of people depend on fisheries for a living in the Asian region, a sector that undoubtedly is a major source of employment, income and food security. This paper looks at the impact of fisheries development and globalization processes on women of fishing communities in the Asian region and their responses to these changes. It also includes initiatives taken by them to deal with the situation in positive ways. The paper notes an absence of information or statistics and proposes areas for future research.
